Stephen Pascoe My work in New Terrain is titled An Uncertain Place. I have placed representatives of a seemingly stable and comfortable community in a foreboding landscape. The group of people may represent ordinary, innocent citizens, oblivious to the portent of menace in a contemporary society. My intention is to question whether a sense of tolerance, fairness and resilience, traits that many believe exemplify the Australian character and community are sustainable in a dangerous world.
