George Alamidis

"Alamidis presents a series of Greek identity cards, issued during the post-war period, which become like units in abstract colour field paintings. Artists are luckier than the rest of the population – as producing creative work over a long period has been said to lessen the trauma associated with immigration – easing adjustment. 'This dislocated state has not always been voluntary,' states curator Imelda Dover of the Immigration Museum, yet the viewer can freely choose whether or not to 'venture into the artwork, and by so doing, come to understanding and revelation."
